Tech is Tough

Totally tired at Tech - Coronado

I’m playing the part of Will in Dennis Lehane’s (Mystic River) Coronado at SF Playhouse.  Our West Coast Premiere goes up March 22nd, and I can’t wait.  The Playhouse is at Sutter and Powell in downtown San Francisco.

Today is day one of tech, which is a rehearsal that goes for twelve hours with a two hour break.  It’s called a ten out of twelve.  We have two of them this weekend, both Saturday and Sunday.  They are fun and dull and interesting and absolutely necessary.  I am totally off book and rearing to go right now.  I really want to start Doing the play.  Especially with the work of the incredibly awesome designers who are doing our lights and sound.  This show is still visceral and exciting and full of taboo and sex.  My kind of theatre.

I went off for lunch and wandered around Union Square, which is a really great benefit of working in downtown.  There are plenty of people to watch and you can just be outside and let humanity wash over you.  It’s awesome.

There’s also a bunch of smokers in this cast, and it’s been a while since I have been around smokers.  I am fully and completely relaxed in my quittedness, which is  a great feeling, cause I don’t want to do that anymore.  With all the different influences that could have pushed me over the edge, it’s nice to cross another one off the list as unsuccessful.
