Cabaret Opens!
Once again I am lucky enough to be working for SF Playhouse in this summer’s production of Cabaret, the venerable often remounted musical of love and betrayal set in the seedy confines of a 1930’s nightclub in Berlin. Believe it or not, we’re pulling it off on the tiny stage of SF Playhouse, with the furthest audience member about 20 feet from the stage. Most productions have the first row about twenty feet away, so you know it’s going to be intimate.
I am playing Ernst, the best friend of the main character in Berlin. It is a cool part, but I am also playing two saxophones in the Orchestra. Which is a lot of fun. I haven’t regularly played saxophone since I was in high school but thanks to one old alto and a rental tenor, I am back in business. I was originally scheduled to play Oboe as well, but it didn’t really fit with the tone of the show and we had a far more competent clarinet player. Which is better that a really loud oboe that might or might now be on the correct note. We have four folks in the show from NDNU, which is groovy, and all four of us are in the orchestra as well as various acting, singing and dancing respoonsibilities.
I’m looking forward to seeing a lot of folks, since the run goes all the way into September. Wednesday through Saturday night, and Saturday afternoon as well. Any questions, shoot me an email and I will see if I can get you a 1/2 price ticket!
